Is 877-867-5139 a Scam? Analyzing the Evidence

877-867-5139

Have you received a call that goes something like this:

“Hi, this is Jessica from the loan approval team. We’re almost done processing your loan, but we need to verify some details about your income. Please call us back at 877-867-5139 before 5 PM Pacific Time today.”

Sound familiar? If you’ve received a message like this, you’re not alone. Hundreds of people have reported getting similar calls, all pointing back to this toll-free number. But here’s the big question: is this legit, or is it just another scam?

Let’s break it down together so you can protect yourself and your personal information.

This information is based on reports from individuals who may have experienced or encountered potential scams. Scammers often use or imitate legitimate phone numbers from businesses and government agencies to deceive people. Always verify the legitimacy of any communication before taking action. This article is intended for informational purposes only and does not provide definitive conclusions about the legitimacy of any entity or individual.

What’s Going On

Here’s what we’ve uncovered from dozens of reports about this number:

  1. The Script Doesn’t Change Much

    • Every call seems to feature “Jessica” (or another generic name) claiming to be from a “loan approval team.”
    • The messages all sound eerily similar. They talk about verifying income for a loan—often one you didn’t even apply for.
  2. Calls From Random Numbers

    • People are getting calls from all over the place: Miami, Colorado, Kentucky—you name it. But no matter where the call originates, the callback number is always 877-867-5139.
    • Spoofing local numbers is a classic scammer move to make the call seem legitimate.
  3. Didn’t Apply for a Loan? Same Here.

    • The majority of people reporting these calls say they never applied for a loan in the first place.
    • One person even joked about the same “application ID” being given to everyone. If that doesn’t scream scam, I don’t know what does.

How This Scam Likely Works

Here’s the playbook scammers seem to be using:

  1. They Hook You With a Lie

    • The call claims your “loan” is almost finalized, creating a false sense of urgency.
  2. They Reel You In

    • When you call back, they’ll ask for sensitive information—like your income, Social Security number, or banking details. Sometimes, they’ll even ask for upfront fees to “finalize” the loan.
  3. They Set the Trap

    • If you provide this information, you could become a victim of identity theft, lose money, or worse.

How to Handle Calls Like This

If you’re getting calls like these, here’s how you can protect yourself:

  • Don’t Share Any Information: Legitimate companies don’t cold-call asking for personal details.
  • Check Your Loan Applications: If you’re in the middle of applying for a loan, contact the lender directly using the phone number on their website.
  • Block the Number: Use your phone’s blocking feature and report the call to the FTC.
  • Stay Calm and Think Critically: Scammers love to create urgency. Take a moment to breathe and evaluate. If something feels off, it probably is.

So, Is 877-867-5139 a Scam?

Based on everything we’ve seen, the answer is almost certainly yes. The overwhelming number of reports about similar messages, coupled with the shady tactics, make it clear this is not a legitimate business.

So the next time you hear from “Jessica” or the “loan approval team,” you know what to do: block, report, and move on. Stay safe out there!

I’ve been receiving these scammer calls and I talked to the person and I told them I was going to report them that I didn’t believe they were legitimate. Who can I report them to?

    1. Same ^. The person on the phone got really defensive when I just asked what the business name was. They said with a heavy accent ‘vestloans’ but it could have been ‘bestloans.’ They wouldn’t listen to me and kept trying to start a loan process even tho I was talking to her about faud happening haha

Yes, they keep calling me saying my laon is approved.
I have told them over & over not to call me but they still do.
    What company is this?
I am posting on Google reviews & also on Better Business Bureau
& the FCC website. I have had enough!

  6. Same call here. Same name, app number, etc. never uses my name or references a company. Scam.

  7. I know it’s a scam because I filed for a chapter 13 bankruptcy and I did not apply for any loans at all

  8. I got a called today Tuesday Dec 10 around 1.50pm Eastern Time saying this is EETL about your account ID. Call us to (877)867-5139 and your application ID is AHZ34578.

  9. Word for word the same call I keep getting!
Complete scam and it is always “Jessica” and call her back to finalize the loan!
Same loan number that everyone else is getting!

Yes, I got the same one. With the same account number. I’m just afraid that when I called the number and she asked me if I was Susan and I said yes I’m afraid they are using my yes answer with my voice to create something awful that unfortunately they’re using my yes answer😞

  11. Really sad my bank sold my info to then. I did apply for a personal loan through my bank and almost 6 hours later I was been getting calls about company’s asking if I need loans

  12. This is a TOTAL SCAM!!! I applied for a loan threw my Experian account and received 20 plus loan offers from different companies. I went with Upgrade to get the loan and on the same day I was approved I got this same call saying they wanted proof of income. If I didn’t pay attention I would have sent that info in thinking it was for the new loan I just got from Upgrade. Be careful!!!

  13. Thank you for this post! I didn’t have any loans in process but certainly thought it is a scam and the message I received is verbatim to the one posted here. Jessica appears to be an “over achiever” :).

Stay safe out there! Tis the season of goodwill and the scamsters are more than happy to take your goodwill to the bank!

Tell the scammer that you are homeless, and do not intend to buy a home, or a car, because you believe being without posessions is the best way to live. They will be SHOCKED. The number of calls will reduce. Say it over and over again as they process their amazement: “I do not own a home or a car, and do not intend to. I don’t want a loan. I don’t want this phone either. Have a nice day.” …. The calls REDUCE. Another tactic is to constantly say “WHAT?” really loudly. Scream “I CAN’T HEAR YOU, BAD SIGNAL.” and that reduces the calls too. SCREAM it about 20 times and the scammer will hang up.

  15. As of today, 12/19/24, the call-back number is disconnected. However, I have received two calls from different numbers with the same voicemail as stated in the article above.

  16. The callback number is disconnected as of today; however, I keep getting calls from different numbers so I called one of them back. I was annoyed so told them to take me off of their list or I’d get my attorney/legal involved and they just started saying that they could offer them a loan too. I was kind of rude to him and he finally got the hint to end the call.

I’ll be interested to see if I continue getting calls from other new numbers that I will continue to block.

I literally get close to 10 calls a day from these people. I block every number they call from, but they spoof their caller ID number so it does nothing to reduce the number of calls I get. It’s beyond ridiculous!

  18. Dear Jessica or whomever you are…if you are reading this I encourage you to please call me again!!! The FBI and local authorities have now been advised of your constant calls to my phone from your numerous fake numbers. so please call me so you can go to jail for a long time as my phone is now monitored.
